Efforts to fight HIV in the United States aren't as successful as AIDS experts had thought.
A new study reveals that many Americans with HIV don't have their disease under control.
HIV patients take drugs to suppress the virus. But researchers at at the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins found fewer people have the disease supressed to an appropriate level than previously thought.
Doctors say it's vital for patients to take the drugs as prescribed to keep the disease at bay.
About 400,000 of the estimated $1.2 million Americans with HIV are taking the proper therapy.
