A doctor in our area now uses a machine that can show you things about yourself that might you might not want to see. It looks under the surface of your skin with UV photography to point out sun damage and other flaws that aren't there when you look in the mirror.

The Visia Imaging System contains a computerized program that analyzes your skin's health. It compares you to women your age in terms of wrinkles, the texture of your skin, the size of your pores, and more importantly it asseses the damage done by years of sun exposure.

Dr. Fanny Louton who offers the technology, at Blair Plastic Surgery, says most people are surprised at the extent of their skin damage. In her words, "it's a great motivator. People believe they've not done as much damage as they actually have. Showing them this photo really brings it home."

The Visia also recommends treatments to improve the look and texture of the skin. Dr Louton then uses the machine over time to track how a patient's therapy is working. You can't reverse sun damage. That's why it's important to wear sunscreen. But Dr. Louton says you can improve your skin's look and texture with skin products and procedures.
