Some gymnasts who work out here at the Roaring Spring YMCA in Southern Blair county are in 7th grade.
Y Executive director Rod Feathers explains why getting in shape is important.
"During that crucial age that they could go to more of a sedative life or they could be more active and help with childhood obesity."
Thanks to a new initiative at this YMCA and at many Y's across the state, 7th graders can come work out here for free. Their membership fee is paid by generous community donors.
Feathers adds, "it's a win-win for both for people that like to give and help support the kids and the kids are involved with it."
For this 7th grader, why exercise?
Keara says, "cause it's good for you."
And the Y director agrees.
"Get them active get them into sports so they're not sitting around at the computer or staying home watching TV."
And it's all about being part of a bigger team here.
Why the Y?
"Cause it's where i do gymnastics at and it's fun to be here."
