A new program at a popular Blair County fitness club has something for kids of all sporting abilities.

Youth fitness recently brought the Sports Evolution program to the Summit Tennis and Athletic Club.

Founded and taught by Allen Coble, this fun and strength building set of activities is based on four tiers or levels of progression. Coble's team first works on evaluating where the kids are at in terms of a fitness level and through many different exercises, Coble gets these guys up to more advanced tiers.

Nicole Hileman, Summit's Marketing coordinator explains. "We're really trying to get back the roots of being a family club so its programs like these that can help us do that."

Sports Evolution founder Allen Coble says it this way. "We want the kids to learn but it's not in a drill sargeant type manner.  We're not going to run the kids into the ground."

Boys and girls ages 8 to 11 are part of one group and ages 12 to 18 work together in the second group. Both groups meet weekly and for more information head here.

Know Your BMI

FYI, your BMI is PDI.

Huh? Would you like a translation? Here it is: For your information (FYI), your body mass index (BMI) is pretty darn important (PDI).

Did you know you had a BMI? Body mass index is a calculation that uses your height and weight to estimate how much body fat you have. Too much body fat is a problem because it can lead to illnesses and other health problems. BMI, although not a perfect method for judging someone's weight, is often a good way to check on how a kid is growing.

Calculate Your BMI

The best way to determine your BMI is to have your doctor do it for you. That way, you'll know the number is accurate and your doctor can discuss the result with you. If you're interested, you also can figure out your BMI on your own.
