In today's "Fit Kids First" we head to one Centre county middle school where a recent fair was all about promoting "Fit Kids"

Over 70 vendors welcomed 1,000 6th, 7th and 8th graders at Park Forest's Health and Wellness Fair.

The organizer of this Health & Wellness Fair Andrea Buchan explains, "We're trying to get across the importance of staying healthy and exercising every day."

Everything from healthy taste testing, to a blender station full of fruity smoothies filled the student's palettes.

Hunter Mona. a 6th grader at  Park Forest Middle School liked the choices.  "If you eat a better diet,  the healthier you will be and the more exercise you get the better,  but not too much exercise or you'll wear yourself down."

These kids tried everything.

Organizers also tried to show some uncommon ways to get moving......like dancing with Wii.

"They're just trying to show that everyday things can turn into be healthy lifestyle choices, playing the  Wii they love playing vide games and don't realize that it's actually good exercise for them"

You can just live a better life - without worries
And for this 6th grader, this Fair also showed how to prepare for any situation...Including CPR.
Grace McDonough, 6th grader, Park Forest Middle School says, "It teaches how to stay healthy and stay active. You can get yourself ready for any situations."

Body Mass Index
Know Your BMI

FYI, your BMI is PDI.

Huh? Would you like a translation? Here it is: For your information (FYI), your body mass index (BMI) is pretty darn important (PDI).

Did you know you had a BMI? Body mass index is a calculation that uses your height and weight to estimate how much body fat you have. Too much body fat is a problem because it can lead to illnesses and other health problems. BMI, although not a perfect method for judging someone's weight, is often a good way to check on how a kid is growing.

Calculate Your BMI

The best way to determine your BMI is to have your doctor do it for you. That way, you'll know the number is accurate and your doctor can discuss the result with you. If you're interested, you also can figure out your BMI on your own.
