ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY -- The Altoona Area Educator's Association President, Jim Krug explains, "We really need to get out beyond just teaching teachers in school and coaching them on the field."
These walkers and runners are all part of the Altoona Teacher's Union's "Biggest Loser" program.
They've each set individual goals and team building exercises like a free community walk and run that's coming up April 9th.
They're hoping hundreds join them at Altoona's Mansion Park track to walk a two mile course or run a 5k course.
There's no cost - in fact if you're one of the first 450 to register that morning, you'll get a t-shirt too.
They're hoping to see their students there too as Krug explains, "Kids certainly follow our leads and if we show them we have a real dedication to health then i think that they will too. We've already done that in school by phasing out the unhealthy food options and just having healthy things."
And these teachers are pounding the pavement to get their fit message out to students.
All the fun gets underway this Saturday beginning at 7:30 am for registration and 9 for the walk/race start. There's also awards and lots of door prizes too.
