STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY - The Quaker Steak and Lube is one of two businesses that will call the old Cinema 6 site on the Benner Pike home.

Folks in the area wonder if this influx of new businesses is a growing trend.

It seems everywhere you look in State College, there's some kind of construction.

"It's a central place I guess for people to come to," Kristin Bushong said.

Every time a new construction project begins, one of the biggest questions is, what business is going in? For many weeks, that's been the question surrounding this construction site on the Benner Pike in State College. Now, we have an answer.

"It was more location driven and also it was driven by opportunity," College Township Manager Adam Brumbaugh said.

Quaker Steak and Lube and Advance Auto Parts will take over the old Cinema 6 site. Kristin Bushong says lately, it seems like more businesses are coming into the area, rather than leaving.

"Really, it's 11.5 plus months of the year that it's busy, busy, busy, lots of people coming through," she said.

Adam Brumbaugh says the area is seeing an upward trend.

"We do have a number of different types of commercial operations that do seem to be picking up steam and coming on board, and hopefully that trend will continue."

He says it's thanks, in large part, to more street and foot traffic in the State College area.

"The College Avenue corridor still is generating somewhere between 21,000 to 22,000 cars a day," Brumbaugh said.

The increase of business is something Bushong is glad to see.

"Especially with everything going on the past year, year plus, it's nice to know that people are still coming through," she said. "It's still good, all positive, which is nice."

The dates for the Quaker Steak and Lube and Advance Auto Parts openings have not been announced.
