Updated: Tuesday Evening, January, 8th
Reported by: Chief Meteorologist Joe Murgo

A clear sky, light winds and a snowcover set the stage for a cold morning, but then sunshine along with a southwesterly breeze helped to rebound temperatures back into the 40s in many places. This is the start of a fairly significant January thaw. Tonight will only feature a few patches of clouds but with a bit of a breeze and a milder air mass, it will not be as cold as last night with lows in the 20s. A weak front will approach the region Wednesday. Ahead of the front, it will become breezy and even milder with temperatures reaching into the upper 40s to near 50. The air mass behind the front will not be too much cooler. Thursday will feature sunshine giving way to clouds with highs in the 40s. The next disturbance will bring some rain Thursday night into Friday. Despite some rain and clouds, it will still be mild Friday with highs in the middle 40s. We'll be between systems on Saturday with a mix of clouds and sunshine and only a slight chance for a shower with highs in the lower 50s. Sunday and Monday will remain mild with more clouds than sunshine with a couple of rounds of showers. Temperatures Sunday will reach into the 50s with highs in the upper 40s on Monday. Tuesday won't be quite as warm with the chance for a couple of showers. A stronger cold front will change our pattern to a much colder on later next week.
