Rooney to Stand Down as US Ambassador to Ireland

Dan Rooney will resign as U.S.Ambassador to Ireland on Friday, that's according to KDKA in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers chairman was appointed as ambassador in 2009 after endorsing President Obama in 2008.

80 Year old Rooney has been credited with boosting the Irish economy after its collapse in 2008.

His resignation has been expected for some time - as Rooney is anxious to return home to Pittsburgh.
