School Employee's Jobs In Jeopardy

By: Aaron Cheslock
Updated: November 16, 2012

Edward Perrin has only been a part-time Custodian for a month at Breezewood Elementary, but with his job in jeopardy, he's worried.

"Just don't take our jobs away - we need 'em."

At Thursday night's board meeting, there were plenty in the crowd fighting to keep Perrin and others in place.

School officials say they are taking proposals from outside companies in but say at this point everything's on the table for discussion. Dixie Paruch, the Everett Area School Superintendent, says they'll push for their employees to get the first look at getting re-hired.

"If the board decides that they are going to outsource the cafeteria or the custodial staff we want the vendors to consider current employees first."

Many who spoke, also gave their praise for outgoing Superintendent Paruch who is taking a job with another school district.

Those proposals are due back in a few weeks.

No decision was made at tonight's meeting.
