The Verizon Wireless store in State College presented a check to the Centre County Women's Resource Center for $20,000. Amy Homan McGee was an employee at Verizon who lost her life to domestic violence in State College 11 years ago.
A plaque remembering Amy was also presented at the ceremony and will be permanently displayed in the store.
The grant will help the center fund more resources to further educate the community about domestic violence.
"This particular grant is in support of and will guarantee that our advocates can continue to work to strengthen victims economic resources so they can help victims of domestic violence move toward self-sufficiency," said Anne Ard of the Centre County Women's Resource Center.
Verizon will hold a month-long wireless phone recycling drive to support the company's hope-line program that uses recycled phones as support lines for victims of domestic violence.
For every phone recycled at the store, Verizon will donate $5 to the Centre County Women's Resource Center.
