Dawn takes us back two decades, to the era where big hair, big clothes, and big music reigned supreme. That's right it's 80's day!
The decade was full of music and artists who took our breath away. Music clips from Duran Duran, Madonna, Poison, Survivor, and Bonnie Tyler remind us why the 80's rocked. At the center of music was the emergence of MTV and the hit single, "We are the World". Over 80 artists banded together and recorded the song in an effort to raise money for Haiti.
Music wasn't the only industry to strive during the decade. The film industry produced many classics as well. Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast club are two that immediately come to mind. We even had a major film shot right in our backyard. The 1983 film, "All the Right Moves," a story about a high-school football star chasing a college scholarship, was shot in Johnstown. The game was played at Point Stadium. Featured in the film was a young Tom Cruise. Cruise used the flick as a launching pad to upstart his illustrious career in Hollywood.
Take a look back at technology and see how it has evolved. Pacman was the high-end video game, the Commodore 64 was the upscale computer, and the big boxy cell-phones were all the rage.
However, the 80's are best remembered for the crazy fashion statements. Underoos, press on nails, stirrup pants, high hair, spandex, and even the mullet were considered trendy. Times have certainly changed, but it is always nice to go back in time and evoke memories from the fun and wild era.
