Sarah Swistak is an award-winning journalist who is happy to be calling the "Happy Valley" home.  She signed on as the co-host of Central PA Live in August of 2011.

Sarah has a penchant for asking questions and a love for telling quirky stories.  Her news writing and feature stories have been recognized by the Associated Press in Minnesota and Montana, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Northwest Broadcast News Association.

Sarah has been honored with three consecutive Emmy nominations for her work as the anchor, producer and editor of ABC 6 News Weekend.  She was also named one of Minnesota's Best Young Journalists, across all mediums, by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2011 and 2012.

From flying high in a B-17 Bomber with a group of World War II Veterans, to rappelling down the side of a three-story building, to climbing inside of the "Globe of Death" as motorcycles whizzed around her, Sarah seizes every opportunity that comes her way.  She made her debut on national television (MSNBC) in December of 2007, through a series of live reports on Evel Knievel's funeral, and just two months later, she appeared on Nightly News with Brian Williams for her coverage of Super Tuesday.

While she realizes she's in the heart of Nittany Lion Country, Sarah is a proud alum of Michigan State University (GO GREEN!). She graduated with a degree in Journalism and American Sign Language, and was one of only six people in her graduating class to have a perfect 4.0 GPA.

When she's not hard at work, chances are she's doing something crafty.  And while she'll never forget her beloved cocker spaniel, Janie, she has opened her heart to a new adorable fur ball, named Riley, who she rescued in April 2012.

If you have a story idea, or would just like to say hello, she'd love to hear from you. You can email Sarah at sswistak@wtajtv.com.

Pitfalls of Publishing

Author Susan Meier joined us today to talk about some of the pitfalls of publishing.

Susan has written 45 Harlequin and Silhouette books.  Her latest is "A Nanny for the Millionaire's Twins."  She is also a past president of the writers group Penn Writers!

Susan's books have also been finalists for Reviewers Choice Awards, National Reader's Choice Awards, Cataromance.com Reviewers Choice Awards and nominated for Romantic Times Awards.

Some of Susan's tips for getting a book published are having a great book cover, writing well, and using a professional editor and formatter.

She also warns that easy distribution won't sell books.  Another tip for self-publishing is using social media to connect with readers.
