Macaroni Kid: Baking to Cure Cancer

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and in honor of that, Julie Follansbee, Editor and Publisher of Macaroni Kid Johnstown/Laurel Highlands, is making cookies for a cause. Macaroni Kid Johnstown/Laurel Highlands is sponsoring a bake sale next Saturday in Johnstown.

Saturday, September 22

Here's the recipe for Toffee Crunch Cookies:
Ingredients:
Saltine Crackers
2 sticks of butter (no substitutes here!)
1 cup sugar
12 oz package of milk chocolate chips (must be milk chocolate!)
chopped walnuts*
Directions:
Spray 2 cookie sheets with non stick spray.
Line cookie sheets with foil and spray again.
Place crackers, touching, on cookie sheets.
In saucepan, boil butter and sugar until foamy, about 3 minutes.
Pour mixture over crackers.
Bake in 350* oven for 10 minutes until caramel colored.
Remove from oven.
Spread chocolate chips over crackers with a spatula.
Sprinkle nuts over all.
Refrigerate for 2 hours.
Cut into squares or break apart.
