Reported by: Brian Thompson Tuesday, Mar 3, 2009 @08:20pm EST (Washington, D.C.) Philadelphia has made the nation's top-25 list for eco-friendly commercial properties.
The EPA said today the City of Brotherly Love places 17th with 50 buildings. The city's structures combined have saved nearly 12.4 million dollars in energy costs - or enough to reduce the electricity use of nearly 79-hundred (7,900) households, the EPA estimates. All properties listed have earned EPA Energy Star status. Such buildings typically use 35 percent less energy and emit 35 percent less greenhouse gases. Los Angeles with 262 "green" commercial sites came in first, followed by San Francisco with 194, Houston with 145, Washington, D.C. with 136 and Dallas-Fort Worth with 126.
