Wednesday, Sep 2, 2009 @10:43pm EDT From Spikes reports: (Williamsport, PA) - The State College Spikes scored seven runs in the first inning, all with two outs, to propel themselves to a 12-6 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters in a SawBuck Series matchup at Historic Bowman Field on Wednesday. State College (36-36) sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, collecting eight hits and a walk. After a pair of groundouts, Justin Byler’s base hit to right field was followed by Aaron Baker’s two-run homer to right field to jumpstart a streak of six consecutive base hits. Byler, Pat Irvine and Elevys Gonzalez each had a three-hit night for the Spikes. Gonzalez knocked in three runs and became the first player in franchise history to hit two triples in one game, nearly hitting an inside-the-park home run in the sixth before being tagged out at the plate |
