Tuesday, Aug 25, 2009 @11:01pm EDT From Pirates reports:
(Pittsburgh, PA) - After watching the Phillies score twice in the top half of the inning to take a one-run lead, the Pirates responded with three runs in the bottom half of the ninth to walk off with a 6-4 win over the Phillies on Tuesday night in front of 17,049 at PNC Park. With the Bucs down by one heading into their last at-bat, Luis Cruz opened up the frame with a single off Phillies closer Brad Lidge and quickly advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Brandon Moss then singled and when Phillies right fielder Jayson Werth fumbled the ball, Brian Bixler, who was running for Cruz, scored from third to tie the game.Andrew McCutchen then played hero with a two-run homer to give the Pirates their fourth walk-off win of the season. The home run was redemption for McCutchen, whose defensive gaffe earlier in the inning had led to the Phillies' go-ahead run. |
