Punxsutawney Borough council fired the police officer who arrested a man who later died in custody. But they won't say if the firing and the death have anything in common.

Stephen Obbish died in the back of a Punxsutawney police car on August 15th. Brian Andrekovich arrested him around 10:00 that morning. And he spent more than five hours in the back of the cruiser before they found him.

The coroner says Obbish had alcohol and prescription drugs in his system, and he was a diabetic. Andrekovich has been on administrative leave since then, and Tuesday night the borough fired him. But they will only say they fired him after an internal investigation. They won't say what the investigation was about. And that has some people in Punxsutawney a little upset.

And while everyone agrees what happened was terrible, they want to know who is responsible.

Everyone that talked to WTAJ that knows Andrekovich says he's a good guy and a good officer and wouldn’t have intentionally done anything wrong.

We called all members of council, the Borough Manager and the Mayor of Punxsutawney, and no one returned our call.
