Reported by: Nate Potter Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @01:13pm EST Representative Bill Shuster, 9th District, said that the House Democratic health care proposal seems like a government takeover of the entire industry.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders unveiled the 2,000-page proposal on Friday. They expect to bring the proposal up on the House floor when the congressmen return to Washington. The bill is called, "The Affordable Health Care for America Act ." It would require all Americans to buy health insurance, and it does include a government-run, public insurance option. Beginning in 2013, the proposal would prohibit the sale of private individual health insurance policies, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government. It also several taxes. Shuster said it would also raise the national deficit. Shuster said that he's concerned over the direction of the health care debate. "This is nothing more than the heavy handed government going to come in and take over health care in this country," Shuster said. "It's not going to improve the quality of health care. It's going to increase deficits. It's going to increase taxes on the American people, and there are going to be people in this country that are going to lose their current health care plan that they have, especially our seniors." Shuster said that the opposition needs to voice its concern with this idea while the House debates it. The bill will be debated this week and could come up for a vote by Friday.
