Reported by: Erin Calandra Tuesday, Sep 22, 2009 @04:43pm EDT BEDFORD, BEDFORD COUNTY - Summer is officially over! Tuesday kicked off the first day of fall and it looks like it by the color of the trees.
If it seems like they’re changing early this autumn that's because they are, but that doesn't necessary mean we'll have a drab season. Experts say our normal peak fall color happens between October 10th and the 15th, but some trees are already at their peak color. They say we’re seeing these early yellows, reds and oranges because of the warm late summer days, cooler nights and dry weather. So what does this mean in terms of color? Well experts expect two thirds of the trees to have normal fall colors during peak time, but they say it won’t be a hall of fame fall foliage season. The further north you go the earlier the leaves change, so it's not quite as colorful in Bedford right now as it is in Ridgway, but that should change in time for Bedford's 45th annual Fall Foliage Festival. The free festival is held October 3rd – 4th and 10th – 11th. The days will be filled with live music, arts, food and fun. Locals say the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival is true small town America that you won’t want to miss! |
