Despite the fact that the budget is almost two months late, a lot of people still aren't feeling the effects. But a local professor says it's only a matter of time. Dr. Dan DiLeo couldn't say exactly how much longer the state can go without a budget. But the longer it takes the more people will be affected, and that could be a career ender for anyone in office. People that talked with us are getting fed up with state lawmakers not passing a budget. But most don't have a real reason why. They say it hasn't personally affected them. The only people saying it does affect them are directly linked to schools and state funded services. But DiLeo says the state can't keep going like this forever. The Political Science professor says this week is very important for school districts. The state is supposed to transfer 827 million dollars to school districts august 27th, but it won't happen if there is no budget. And he says it's going to hit the lawmakers too, because we're never that far from an election in the state assembly. DiLeo says writing,
calling, and emailing is good, but scheduling a face to face meeting is your
best bet to let lawmakers know how you feel. |
