The state budget is 44 days over due. Side effects from the delay continue to surface. Right now private schools are feeling the pinch.

In 2002 the Supreme Court ruled that private schools could get money from the government. There are some restrictions and most schools like Penn Mont Academy use it for textbooks. But come the first day of school, the money and the books won't be there.

Michelle Hartye at Penn Mont Academy says Montessori schools won't be hit as hard as other schools, because they use a hands-on method and don't depend so much on books.

The Altoona Central Catholic School won't have the work books or new world history books they ordered. Principal Jeff Maucieri says they also won't get their money for free and reduced school lunches. And they'll have to move some money around from other programs to make it work.

Both top educators say their staff will still get the job done.

Penn Mont is out 15 thousand dollars worth of books for now, and Central Catholic is out about 25 thousand dollars.
