A young woman
presents her senior capstone project to graduate from Penn State Altoona. But she had to face
more than just nerves. Erin Kelly has cerebral palsy, she's confined to a wheel
chair, and she can't speak. She writes for the
school newspaper and the Altoona Mirror. And she wrote a series of poems that
she turned into her play, How to Wait. Debbie Kelly
adopted Erin from Steve Sherrill is her
creative writing professor. He started the program with the first words she
wrote for his class. He helped her shape her poetry into her senior project. Some
of her friends read those poems aloud and wrapped her in ribbons in front of
the audience. After the last poem, the readers cut her free from the ribbons
and presented her to the audience. |
