September 22, 2pm at the new Spring Cove
Elementary School in Roaring Spring, a special ceremony was held for the
unveiling of a 6 foot tall bronze sculpture. The sculpture depicted a baby
dragon emerging from an egg. The 1200 lb. mascot was sculpted by local bronze
artist Jason Snowberger of East Freedom. Pictured with him is his son Micah age
9, a 3rd grader at the new school and his daughter Kassy age 7, attending 1st
grade.
The seed money for the sculpture was given by the PTO's of the East Freedom
Elementary and Roaring Spring Elementary School with a plaque at the base of the
sculpture to remember the 2 schools.
I had the idea for the project and approached Mr. Green the school
superintendent in March of this year with a 1/6 model of the sculpture that I
was proposing. Mr. Green was very enthusiastic about the project and moved
forward quickly.
The project was special to me in that my children would be attending the
new school. Because of this I was happy to donate my time and did the sculpture
at cost. Start to finish the working time in the sculpture was approximately 4
months.
Thank You,
Jason Snowberger |
