  • Blair County Support for Obama Growing
    Reported by: Kevin Flanigan

    Wednesday, Jun 4, 2008 @05:34pm EDT

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Like the rest of Pennsylvania, Blair County Democrats were big Hillary Clinton supporters in this year's April Primary. Still leaders of that party say they should have no problem uniting and supporting Barak Obama.

Blair County Democratic Chairman Frank Rosenhoover was a firm backer of Hillary Clinton. But with the Democratic Presidential Nomination now firmly in the hands of Barak Obama, the local party leader says there should be no problem uniting the party behind the winning candidate despite the spirited primary campaign.

While party leaders say they've been impressed by the campaign run by Hillary Clinton, the success of Barak Obama also opens new political doors. While some are disappointed that a woman will not head the Democratic ticket this time around, there are other reasons local democrats are predicting a ground-swell of support for their candidate in fall general election.

The Blair County Democratic Party Chairman pointed out that voter registration in that party went way up across this state in part because of the primary battle between Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama. Having that 700-thousand edge in voter registration in Pennsylvania could pay off for the Democrats in November.
