In a field that is still dominated mostly by men, WTAJ was the home to one of the few female sports directors in the country for quite a few seasons. Kellie Goodman started at WTAJ in 1993 as a videographer and back up sports reporter. Through her 14 years she did a little bit of everything as she worked her way up to sports director. For Kellie, reporting on Central PA sports was far more than just a job.
"All the intangibles about life that you learn on an athletic field being a part of a team. Just to have the opportunity to witness that and tell their stories was truly a joy." Kellie is now the marketing director for the Allegheny Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureau and the manager of the PSFCA East West All Star Football game. Kellie says she has so many memorable moments from WTAJ, sharing amazing stories of athletes and coaches for over a decade, but there is one man who will always have a special place in her Penn State Alumnus heart. "Certainly the opportunity to sit down and do a series of interviews with Joe Paterno has to be the highlight of a journalists career. Just to have time to sit down and talk with someone of that caliber and someone I respect that much was an amazing experience." Kellie fell in love with Central PA and this is where she wants to stay. But don't worry, she still makes it home to Wyalusing. There are two up and coming star athletes, her twin nieces, who this Aunt wouldn't miss being on the sidelines for. "As much fun as I have had watching other peoples kids play sports over the year, to have the chance to watch my nieces play soccer tournaments and basketball games is such a joy. That is something I didn't have a lot of time to do in that television schedule." So you will still see Kellie at sporting events, its just in her blood, but now she can just take a few more time outs to enjoy the other fun things that life has to offer. |
