When
it comes to enjoying Central Pennsylvania Steve Harmic has the experience. He has been living and working here his whole
life.
Steve
went to Clearfield High School and graduated from Penn State University. He began his career with WTAJ in the spring
of 2003. Steve started working as Bureau
Chief and Reporter for the Clearfield Region.
He worked out of the WTAJ office in Dubois.
Steve
left WTAJ in June of 2007 to work at Penn State Dubois. He is the public information officer. He still deals with the media, but now it’s
from the other side. Instead of tracking
people down for interviews, Steve is the one being bombarded for information. “It’s been a lot different. The pace here is different. The style of work and writing I do is
different,” Steve says.
Steve
says he enjoys the work that does now, but there are times he would like to
chase down leads, sources and break stories.
“There are a lot of days where I miss going out and especially those
days where I turn on the TV and see they’re covering breaking news.” Steve says sometimes when he watches WTAJ
NEWS he does miss the old job, “When I see Erin Calandra covering breaking news
on my old beat, I get a little jealous.”
But
most of the time Steve says he likes Penn State Dubois, “I’ve certainly embraced
something I certainly enjoy doing.”
Steve
reminisced at the end of the interview that the best part about reporting was
coming into work everyday, having no idea what kinds of stories he would cover
that day.
