  • Jefferson County Men Charged As Internet Predators
    Reported by: Erin Calandra

    Friday, Sep 12, 2008 @06:12pm EDT

Two Jefferson County men are behind bars charged with being internet sexual predators.
The Attorney Generals Office says they've been watching these guys for a couple months now.
They say both of the men asked who they thought was a 12-year-old girl on the computer to have sex with them, but that little girl was really a cop.

The AG’s office says 64-year-old Michael McCarthy and 28-year-old Robert Brewer, both of Punxsutawney, used McCarthy's computer to talk to the undercover agent.
They say the men contacted the agent in an internet chat room created to talk about video games.
Officials from the AG's child predator unit say the men sent the undercover agent several pictures of naked children, along with inappropriate videos.
They also say the men sent messages saying quote "I love you," along with other explicit questions.
Police say Brewer visited McCarthy's home often to use his computer.
They seized that computer in February and found over 115 child pornography pictures along with videos.
Officials from the Attorney Generals office arrested the men yesterday in Punxsutawney.
They are both facing several felony charges related to being child sexual predators.

Both men are now in the Jefferson County jail.
Brewer is there on $150,000 bail, and McCarthy on $50,000 bail.
Both preliminary hearings are scheduled for next week.
