Reported by: Meteorologist Brian Thompson Saturday, Oct 24, 2009 @09:57pm EDT It's pretty typical during the autumn months that we have spells where it's unusually warm and unusually cool. That's how it will be this again this week, although we are not looking at any big cool snaps over the next seven days. It appears that the snow we picked up last week on the 15th and 16th could be the only flakes we see this October, as any air mass cold enough to produce snow will not arrive until after the month ends this coming Saturday.
Just like this past week, it's looking more and more like we are going to have another brief bout of Indian Summer later this week. Last week, we got into the 70s twice. There will be a short window of opportunity for it to happen again this coming Thursday. After a round of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday, there will be an area of clearing on Thursday ahead of a strong storm system approaching from the Midwest. With there being a strong storm to our west, we will get into a strong southerly flow, which will bring up warm air. With enough sunshine, we may see highs spike into the 70s on Thursday as it combines with that warm, southerly flow. While it may feel nice on Thursday, the forecast will look to go downhill just in time for...you guessed it...Friday. We've had rain (or snow) every Friday this month and this week appears to be no different. That strong storm system I talked about will be right near Pennsylvania on Friday, which will look to bring us another round of rain. |
