Earlier this year, the parent company of JLG Industries landed a huge defense contract. The effort to build thousands of mine- resistant all terrain vehicles for the military means training and jobs for hundreds of Pennsylvania Workers. JLG Industries, with major plants in Fulton and Bedford counties is getting $300 thousand dollars from the State of Pennsylvania. That money will be combined with Federal Workforce Investment Act funds. About 680 JLG workers are being called back or hired to build a new generation of military vehicles.
.................................... A national report points to the growth in Pennsylvania's wind generating capacity. The American Wind Energy Association says that Pennsylvania's power generating capacity is growing faster than almost any other state. Pennsylvania's number two ranking came about because of two projects in this region. The Allegheny Development in Cambria and Blair counties and the highland wind project in Cambria County have both recently come on line. More than 500 people are developing wind energy projects across the state. ...................................... The newest version of of the Windows Operating System is now sale. The Windows 7 program has arrived in stores with better reviews than the last update released by Microsoft. The new operating system is designed to boot up faster and look cleaner . Windows 7 is also said to work better with plug-in devices, like cameras and home networking devices. Windows 7 software is selling for about $120. Computer analysts say the new Windows 7 should be more popular with consumers than the much troubled Vista Operating System. |
