Reported by: Nate Potter Tuesday, Oct 6, 2009 @02:07pm EDT HARRISBURG - The state started accepted applications for funding of large-scale solar projects designed to develop green energy production and jump-start the economy.
Up to $7 million in federal stimulus funding will be available through the Green Energy Works Solar program, one of four competitive grant programs intended to show that green energy and green jobs are the future of economic development and power production. Solar installation costs have declined by about 25% since 2008, and are expected to continue donwward. The national goal is to reduce the cost of solar electricity to the cost of electricity from the grid, by 2015. All proposed projects must create jobs, be able to start work within six months, be completed with 24 months and prior to April 30, 2012.
