  • Veterans Welcomed Home Troops
    Reported by: Nate Potter

    Tuesday, Sep 29, 2009 @02:03pm EDT

LORETTO, CAMBRIA COUNTY - Veterans welcomed home members of the 56th Stryker Brigade, while honoring the memory of one man killed while serving America in Iraq.

On Saturday, September 26th, family, friends, members of the American Legion, and members of the Blair County Veterans Guard gathered at the Cresson Sportsmen's Club.  They held a ceremony to not only say thank you to the local troops who just returned home but also to say thank you to all of America's troops, for their service.

"I'd like to show some appreciation for veterans in addition to welcoming the soldiers home today," said the event organizer Hope Benning.

They also honored the memory of Army Specialist Chad Edmundson.  He was a member of the 112th Stryker Brigade.  He was killed while serving America in Iraq in May, 2009.  The Edmundson family received honors from local lawmakers.  Flags were also flown over top of the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg and the Capitol Building in Washington.

Benning said that all the proceeds raised during the ceremony went to the Chad Edmundson Scholarship Fund.
