Reported by: Kevin Flanigan Sunday, Sep 27, 2009 @05:26pm EDT ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Some streets around Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona were a sea of purple and white for part of Sunday afternoon.
Hundreds of supporters of the Catholic High School, decked out in the Bishop Guilfoyle school colors, took part in the annual walk for Catholic Schools.
Organizers said the annual walk was started several years ago as a fund raising event for the private school. But now the walk is viewed more as a way to bring the students and their community supporters together. Participants called the demonstration a show of support for Catholic Education and a way for students and their backers to show some community spirit. After the walk through the neighborhoods around the High School, Bishop Guilfoyle supporters gathered back in the school's Gym for a community party. |
