Reported by: Kevin Flanigan Thursday, Aug 6, 2009 @05:09pm EDT A new restaurant is attracting plenty of attention in Altoona. And Downtown Dubois has seen a surge in recent business activity. These stories and more are in Today's business page.
In Downtown Altoona, Sophia's restaurant has opened its doors to customers. The new owner is promising food you don't want to miss. It's been in business for less than a week but already word is starting to spread about the new Sophia's restaurant at 1000 Sixth Avenue in the city. Owner Richard Lohsl says with an open kitchen and the only wood fired oven in Blair County, the remodeled restaurant is equipped to turn out fine food that is a fusion of Italian, Greek, Mediterranean, and American styles of cooking. Sophia's is open seven days a week and while the restaurant does not have a liquor license, patrons are invited to bring their own beverages. The new restaurant has started off with eight employees and expects that number to increase as the business grows. ................................................ Three new business have recently set up shop in the same block of North Brady Street in the Downtown business district of Dubois. Dubois Inks and Toners on now offers bargains to local clients looking to cut their printing and copying costs. The Dubois Day Spa offers a wide range of hair, nail and relaxation services to its clients. And Lauren's Barber Shop is open for all walk-in customers who are looking for a good haircut or shave at a bargain price. ................................................ If it's a young child that needs some attention, you might want to check out Joy's Salon for Kids. It's located on East College Avenue next to Damon's in State College. Special fun chairs, play areas, and dress up costumes are all part of set up that is expected to make it a lot easier to get youngsters to sit still for the attention they sometimes need. Joy's Salon for Kids is closed on Mondays but open all other days of the week. |
