The Federally funded effort to get some old cars off the road seems to be off to a quick start. The Federal Government's Cash for Clunkers program has been up and running officially for just a few days. But already millions of dollars in payments have been distributed. As of Wednesday, more than ten percent of the money set aside for Cash for Clunkers program has been allocated. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has already received vouchers for more than Ninety Six million dollars. The program which gives motorists up to 45-hundred dollars for vehicle upgrades was designed to run until November. But based on the early success, sponsors say the available funding could run out in a matter of weeks. Both national auto makers and local car lots report lots of interest in the program and say people should move fast before the effort runs out of cash.

There's a new Kar-Pro Auto Service Center open in the area. The business is a sister company of the established Professionals Auto Body firm. Kar-Pro is designed to be a complete mechanical service center that can help vehicle owners keep their cars and trucks on the road. With newer vehicles featuring built in computer diagnostic systems, the people behind Professionals Auto Body felt this was the time to expand from collision repair to to the area of comprehensive auto maintenance. The new Kar-Pro center in Duncansville is open seven days a week.

And there is more trouble ahead for the U.S. Postal Service. The U.S. Government's Accountability Office says that the Postal Service belong on "high -risk " list of companies. That's because mail volume is falling rapidly and financial losses suffered by the Post Office continue to surge. That's why the Post Office is currently looking at moves that include dropping one day of delivery, consolidating some Post Office branches and asking the Federal Government to take over the cost of retiree health care. By some estimates, the U.S. Postal Service is losing about twenty million dollars a day. That's why some critics of the system say changes have to be made.
