Leanne Dengler Fred DelGrosso, Sr. : Age 66 : Tipton, Blair CountyOccupation: Management DelGrosso Foods/DelGrosso Amusement Park According to statistics, the lifetime risk of men getting breast cancer is about 1/10th of 1% or 1 in 1,000, but for that one it is still a scary diagnosis. Just ask Fred DelGrosso. He is a breast cancer survivor. Fred is no stranger to doctors and medical procedures. In 1999 he went through a successful liver transplant. In 2004 he found a lump on one of his breasts. Fred knew first hand that he had to see a doctor right away. He is one of seven children and two of his sisters had already battled breast cancer when he found his lump. Doctors removed his lump and he has been treated with medication ever since. At the age of 66, he is cancer free. He did go through BRCA 2 genetic testing and found he was a carrier of the breast cancer gene. He and his wife Cathy have been married for 46 years. They have six children; three girls and three boys. They are the loving grandparents to 12 grandchildren. All three daughters have gone through the genetic testing; one is a BRCA 2 carrier. "Education is the best prevention. I want my children to have all the information they can so they are better prepared to fight cancer if they have to." DelGrosso Foods and Amusement Park has been a gracious sponsor of many cancer fighting programs sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The DelGrosso family is especially involved with Coaches Versus Cancer, Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. |
