fifth straight ballgame Thursday night in the home finale at Blair County
Ballpark in 2009, losing to the Akron Aeros (AA-Cleveland Indians)
4-0.
The loss marks the fourth time this season Altoona has dropped five in a row which is tied for the second longest losing streak of the season. Back to back triples by Jerad Head and Lonnie Chinsenhall got the Aeros on the board in a three-run fourth inning. Josh Rodriguez would single home Akron’s final run in the seventh inning. Head finished 2-for-4 on the night with a double, a triple, and an RBI. Jonel Pacheco continued his offensive surge with another multi-hit night going 2-for-5. Thursday marks the seventh consecutive game Pacheco has had multiple hits and the ninth time in his last 11 games. Pacheco has raised his average 24 points since 8/23 (.249-.273). Curve starter Kyle Bloom (6-9) takes the loss after tossing 6.2 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four. Akron lefty Eric Berger (3-1) picks up his third win after tossing 5.1 shutout innings, striking out seven Curve batters. The Curve (60-78) now travel to Binghamton for their final four games of the 2009 season against the Binghamton Mets (AA-New York Mets) at NYSEG Stadium. Probable starters for the series opener with the B-Mets are RHP Tim Alderson (9-1, 3.47) for Altoona and RHP Eric Brown (6-14, 6.04) for Binghamton. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network with the Marzoni’s In-the-Zone Pre-Game show.
